Pre Choptober

So yes, Choptober is upon me. I know I know I have been dramatically quiet since Beermachine but everything went off well and ended in typically Beermachine style. (I ended up with beer in my fridge, more templates than usual, a spare mercenaries card deck and a spare cat.)

I ended up playing in it and it was the testing ground for my now FEARED and DREADED Garyth list.

Although I lost to Scarre, cause I forgot she has a great rack, cause I was drunk. Even being drunk is not an excuse to forget that someone has a great rack.

Anyway I think denial plays a large part of my list construction for Choptober. Not in a no spells anti movement no special actions or orders kind of way but in a "No Garyth is not bad" kind of way.

I did try to get back to eVyros but after a few games I quelled the urge to biff him out the window at the nearest passer by and placed him back in my army box next to the do not touch sign.

Garyth on the other hand has been dishing out victories of a caliber so delicious it makes the bitter defeats with eVyros seem like some kind of exotic yet tolerable dessert.

The E-Vyros of desserts.

Now I have been internally struggling with dropping Garyth for someone like, Rahn, or Ravyn, or Ossyan or even pVyros. Especially after getting trounced frequently by a Legion list. However anything else I threw at the Legion list got equally smashed, leaving me with the distinct impression its much the same problem I have with Gators. Scoop or L2P better.

Here are my lists for Choptober, let the netdecking BEGIN

List 1: I wish I was Rask.

Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper
Banshee
Phoenix
Dawnguard Sentinels (Leader and 9 Grunts)
Dawnguard Sentinel Officer & Standard
Soulless Escort
Lady Aiyana & Master Holt
Stormfall Archers (Leader and 3 Grunts)
Arcanist
Arcanist
Dawnguard Destor Thane
Dawnguard Destor Thane
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
House Shyeel Artificer

This is a fairly common configuration for my Kaelyssa lists. Its mostly tried and true and to be honest I may have played it only once and no more. I have utter faith in its armor cracking, spell denying, infantry swam killing scenario scoring, assassination potential.

List 2: Garyth 2013.

 Garryth, Blade of Retribution
Discordia
Phoenix
Sylys Wyshnalyrr, the Seeker
Dawnguard Sentinels (Leader and 9 Grunts)
Dawnguard Sentinel Officer & Standard
Soulless Escort
House Shyeel Battle Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Arcanist
Arcanist
Dahlia Hallyr & Skarath
House Shyeel Artificer
House Shyeel Magister

This is the box fulfillingly, kaiser-cide inducing, Garyth list which strike terror into the heart of all opponents, except Gators and Legion.

Yes no Hyperion. Hmmm yes no Strike Force, oh my gosh no Invictors.... Mage Hunter Assassins?

Bro do you even Retribution?

Somewhere deep down inside I actually feel like  these lists are far too similar and I am making a huge huge mistake. Some really basic common configuration is going to smear them across the table and I will have hard countered myself. However! denial is firmly in place and these 2 are the ones to win it.

Bring it on Choptober!
