Garyth & Elara & Dahlia Hallyr vs Xerxis! 50 points

Garyth \g(a)-ry-th/
As a boy's name is a variant of Gareth (Welsh) and Garrett, and the meaning of Garyth is "gentle".
Not gonna lie. Looking at that armor stack from Garyths side of the table was intimidating to say the least. Sentinels were needing to one shot anything in order to get any value out of them.
Reaching Xerxis for an assassination would not be easy, and as for those beasts... whatever.

Garryth, Blade of Retribution
Phoenix
Dawnguard Sentinels (Leader and 9 Grunts)
Dawnguard Sentinel Officer & Standard
House Shyeel Battle Mages (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Arcanist
Arcanist
Dahlia Hallyr & Skarath
Elara
Sphinx
House Shyeel Artificer
House Shyeel Magister
Narn, Mage Hunter of Ios

Xerxis
More brick than a brick shit house.

Incindiarii are one of the worst designs in the game. Lets take a unit and make it so missing is  better than hitting by making its main strength in a continuous effect. Which by the way is horribly imbalanced because if it falls on your Warcaster he will die a slow painful death, but if it lands on your Warlock it means she can LITERALLY run hot for the rest of the game because she has a bonus damage transfer at the start of each turn.

So the cunning wall of Acuraii or Cetratii or whatever they were means I completely didnt see the dickheads with Roman candles standing behind them like a group of adolescent youths with a complete disregard for fire safety warnings and common sense.

I was starting to think I was the Australian as shit around me was bursting into flames.

Because he killed a Sentinel with a direct attack it triggered vengeance.  Sphinx shot a Incindearii.

3 Sentinels charged the Bronzeback and did a fair chunk of damage, 4 more charged the Gladiator and left it on about 7 boxes. Seriously L2P that was terrible I don't know why they didn't all charge the same target.

Skarath laid down an aimed spray accross the side of the house and killed a couple Incindearii and put a little damage on the others. The Pheonix, Garyth and the one remaining sentinel completely failed to kill the Cetratii. Dahlia upkept haunting melody and went and made herself a nuisance.

Xerxis sits behind the house and feats. The Heavies smash my Sentinels into little bits . The Cetrati walk in on to the Pheonix, two connect but leave it functional. 2 More kill my Artificer and the Acuraii on the flank chop up most of my Battle mages. The Sphinx takes a little damage but is also fully functional.
Haunting melody stops him from going into shield wall or charging during his feat turn.

Skarath frenzies on to a Cetratii killing it. Dahlia dances around on the zone in front of his beasts. The magister Combo Smites a Cetratii but misses. The Pheonix kills one and misses the other 2 times, sets it on fire and leave it on one box. The Sphinx takes 3 focus and kills the 2 engaging Acuraii.
Elara for some mad reason decided that charging one of the two remaining Cetratii was a sure thing and went up and did like 3 damage to one with 2 focus used.

Narn however who I pretty much completely forgot about, woke up, charged the 2 Remaining Cetratii killed them both then wandered off to hang out all Solid Snake like on the side of a house.

Garyth as the text indicates, made a tactical withdrawal towards his table edge. The last remaining battle mage mustered its courage after watching its friends get  stabbed, beaten and  burnt to death and stands around in the zone.

Garyth could feel the shit storm was just about ready to engulf him but he made peace with Lacyr and dedicated his final moments to Scyrah. Probably walked out of the killbox but we were not using the artifice.

So MAT 5 Titan comes up and.. yea lol mat 5 haha. It leaves the Phoenix on 5 boxes, lol. Elara gets engaged by an Acuraii so the Sphinx Counter Charges in and kills it, but then the Incendiarii combine and kill her, making the Sphinx! inert.
My Phoenix dies to fire.... ..... ... .. .

Skarath turns around finishes off the titan and the remaining Cetratii while Dahlia sits around inside the zone. The Bronzeback wanders off to the far corner to kill the lone Sentinel flag bearer who is standing around being a dork.

The Battle mage who rallied turns around and pops the Acuraii out of the zone and kills it. What a hero.

Paingivers start lining up around Dahlia so Xerxis can combo smite them over her to put damage on her and start killing her. It was at this point I felt like I was doing something wrong because she felt to be horribly overpowered, so I checked the rules again.

Haunting Melody: Look at my snake, my snake is amazing. Trololol hahahaha your all useless.

On closer inspection... Yes Haunting Melody is amazing.

Skarath dies to the Gladiator, Xerxis slams a paingiver or whatever it is over Dahlia who sits on about 4 boxes now. The least disturbance rule puts her just out of the zone so he can dominate it.

It took Xerxis killing 2 of his own support pieces to collateral slam Dahlia to death. She stopped him scoring for about 4 turns tho so totally worth it, also meant his Bronzeback couldn't leave the zone. Amazing.

The one remaining Battle Mage uses beat back to push the Guy Who Yells At People To Stand Up into a position that Garyth could walk around and kill all 4 of the models. Then the next turn the Gladiator kills my objective and nets him another point. Garyth sits in the zone scores a point and shoots the enemy objective for 8 damage.
The Gladiator then slams into the SPhinx to get into the zone so I don't win at the end of his turn, it doesn't go far enough to contact Garyth, with Dahilia dead Xerxis can leave his zone while the Bronzeback had to stay back and kill an Arcanist I ran into the zone.

The battle mage connects with both fists on the Gladiator but cant push it ouf of the zone, so we start some Temporal Warp warmachine. I go with shooting the objective and kill it netting me 5th point and the win.

But then we go back and I charge Xerxis to see if Garyth can do it. He can apparently, in 2 attacks.

People talk about the "water style" play of Retribution and when looking into the Onomastics of Garyth I'm starting to get a clue about a better play style for him. Either that or....

  1. How are Incindiari a bad design because Fire highlights how focus sucks compared to Fury? They work just as well hitting as they do missing and they are in Skorne, who are below the Luke Line of Approval and need all the help they can get.

Pretty sure you're just mad cause your broken super mittens guy doesn't allow your entire army to ignore some AoE.

Also Haunting Melody is just a stealth Cryx buff.

  2. Totally broken, terrible design.

And the whole fury focus thing is a bad focus fury design. The whole missing things is better than hitting them because they always catch on fire is a bad Incindiari design.

Because this is my opinion so I said so that's why.

And yes, I'm mad because I cant ignore continuous effects or knock down effects, there is no tech for that in Retribution yet.

  3. I think it needs more alliteration, so henceforth the line of approval shall be known as "Luke's Line of Legitimacy"
