Tally

Tally recording wins and loses, from games recorded on blog, since september 2014 and from certain memory over the last 3 years. (Beyond 3 years I just dont remember any games out of a 5 year history) of course its not ALL of my games but as much stunning victories and crushing defeats as I care to remember.

Journeyman Warcaster. Elara (Jayl Bayt) Tyro of the third chamber.

Its with convenient timeliness that Retributions first Journyman Warcaster, has been released shortly after I had been play testing and theorizing Jack Marshals in Ret.

Elara will be released with the Warmachine game as part of a kick starter package. As far as I understand it she has a limited edition sculpt, the one shown. Then the molds will be broken and a new less good sculpt will be available. I'm quietly suspicious that the new sculpt will also be good.

Elara being a journeyman warcaster is rather young, I think her title Tyro might be elvish for jail bait. Being of the third chamber however it does relate to her position within the temple of Scyrah. I think I'll go on to call her Elara Jayl Bayt Tyro to elvenize it up a bit.

I think I cant legally put stats up so shes in here.

Anyway Most of the same things in my previous post about which casters you could run jacks out of battle group with without giving up too much still apply.

The theory machine dojo training started early with my sparring partner with him taking the similar forum stance of the Hater. I came at it with more of a OMFGTHISISAMAZING approach and tried to tone it down.
He hit me with a "but you can just kill her so you dont want to invest too much in her." approach. To this I said "I suppose, but she shouldnt be in a place where she is easily killable."

If your playing Retribution properly you will either have Discordia or an Artificer and maybe an Aspis. This means she could be def 17 or arm 16 + foc so... the only way you could easily get her is spelling her, or delivering something in melee. Well counter charge gets around the melee part.

Anyway I proxied her up in a couple of games in my latest Garyth list.

Garryth, Blade of Retribution

Phoenix
Dawnguard Sentinels (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Dawnguard Sentinel Officer & Standard
Soulless Escort
Arcanist
Arcanist
Dahlia Hallyr & Skarath
Dawnguard Scyir
Dawnguard Scyir
House Shyeel Artificer
House Shyeel Magister
Elara
Griffon
Griffon
Now Garyth is Garyth so there was only so much the list is capable of but all she really did was sit around keeping her counter charge upkeep alive on the 2 Griffons and made them horribly frustrating for my opponent to deal with while trying to engage my Sentinels.
Griffons charging for free is pretty sweet, the bonus mat combined with pathfinder and reach means they are likely to get the charge off and hit hard and accurately.
She didnt draw any heat from my Skorne opponent who found the lights a nuisance but not a major worry, thus she was great for holding and contesting points. With only the 8 points invested in the lights he didnt really care to go out of his way to kill her. That being said they did a fine job of killing his Nihilators.
I cant say this enough, Counter Charge is super sweet. With the 2 jacks and herself that was 3 potential counter charges in a turn, that can really hurt someones engagement plans.
Jacks to run her with.

A great advantage of Ret jacks is their guns, if the jack (Myrmidon) has a good gun then it can be focus efficient and run easily with 1 or 2 focus.

Banshee:
Counter charge with this can be good for the same reason hallowed avenger works. You get it into positions where Wailing is more of a problem. 1 Focus will let it kill things using its momentum cannon in base to base easily, 2 Focus will help it kill a caster. For 10 points however its a hefty investment for Elara to run with if your worried about her staying alive. Its also 10 points of beat stick thats not under your casters control so if its your only heavy hitter and she goes down you have issues.

Hydra:
Counter charge is not so amazing, but Focus Battery is. Elara can happily fuel this guy up and then keep her focus to do other things while it stands around and zots things with its cannon. This works for me, heck she could run 2 very well. By turn 2 you can be allocating one focus to each one as it shoots. They will be keeping back field and so will she. The main problem is the Hydra is slightly over costed for what it can achieve and again, losing her loses the jack/s

Manticore:
A cheaper investment at 8 points. One can run well on 3 focus, they are focus hungry jacks but thats why putting one with Elara is so great, she is bonus focus after all. This lead me to a mad skew list with Ravyn and 4 Hydras 2 in each battle group. I'll go on about this in a bit more depth soon.

Gorgon:
Ok so it is a light with a gun, but its a crap gun and its a crap light. Counter charging with force lock is a little amusing but the thing is the model that has advanced into counter charge range has probably stopped in a place that force lock wont effect anything anyway. Nope this jack is still bad.

Chimera:
I skipped the Pheonix because its too big of an investment to run in her battle group and it has the arc node. But lets not forget that Elara does have convection so, she could use an arc node, theoretically, and counter charge could be followed up by its own appiration to give it a potentially new charge angle or disengage, this has potential.

Griffon:
I didn't mention it before but counter charge is made especially sweet with reach. This guy seems to be built for her. Forget eVyros Griffon spam, its Elara Griffon spam 4 lyfe.

Aspis:
Nice to have one around, doesnt need to be stuck with her tho. Not focus hungry so doesn't benefit from having its own caster, counter charge with beatback is nice but without reach much harder to do.
Warcasters to run her with

Ossyan:
If she is running jacks with guns, the big ones then its solid, Ossyans feat works on anything, the only things your missing out on are Chronomancer and Admonition . I could see her running the Banshee, or a pair of Hydra, quicken her for more survivability and put Hyperion or Hypnos in Ossyans battle group.

pVyros:
Normally you do want jacks in his battle group so she may not be the best with him, however if she has even one light, say the Aspis she can use the Extraction ability on her blades under Vyros's feat turn to fuel up her jack and simultaneously something in Vyros' battle group, potential here.

eVyros:
Vyros can move her with Tides of War, again you want things in his battle group for Synergy but with Tides movement you can have some crazy counter charge going on. If you didnt build to maximize synergy but a more balanced list I can see her running a light while Vyros took the heavy hitters to make more use of the +1's.

Garyth:
Garyth doesnt care about having things in his battle group, so the more he doesnt need to give out his focus the happier he is. Death Sentance means she has more of a chance to land those melee attacks, but being honest you dont want her in combat, treat her like you would your caster, keep her safe.

Rahn:
Here again I wouldnt give her many if any jacks, loosing potential Force Blast targets is not worth it. However maybe just maybe a Chimera. The main idea I see working with Rahn is he sets up a nice assassination, slams and or telekinesis and she finishes it off with Convection under his feat. Could work. Fully boosted + collateral pow 14 slam + 2 fully boosted 12's... more of a clutch play perhaps.

Kaelyssa:
Aside from making Elara more survivable through Banishing Ward and a nifty feat I cant immediately think of any synergies these 2 have. You don't necessarily want to remove jacks from the battle group because you lose witch hound.

Ravyn:
Now I can see these two getting along famously. Elara is a bit weak in the p+s department, and mat 6 is sufficient but not amazing. Ravyn herself is no slouch in combat but with Vortex of Destruction up Elara can potentially cut through a few pesky infantry with little effort. I can see them running tandem inside a Veil of Mists both benefiting from the concealment but also being able to draw LoS and move through each other to maximize your melee potential. Also during Ravyns feat any jacks with guns Elara may be controlling will get all of the same benefits. It was in this that I saw 4 Manticore laying down covering fire, 2 in advanced positions and the 2 controlled by Elara sitting in front of Ravyn and herself, ready to counter charge into something that attacks the front Manticore. With 2 focus a Manticore under Ravyns feat can deliver a lot of accurate power 12's, with this combo you can have all 4 of them fueled up, and they are hard hitters in melee also.

I see Elara being a solid 3 point investment in most lists, whether she be a super solo or running several lights for lots of counter charge, or a pair of heavies with big guns.
Potentially as sweet as this picture.

The Dawnguard Scyir. Some Theorymachine and practice on the Retribution Jack Marshal Solo

Yea...
The latest post on the Retribution Forums expounding the glory of eVyors with Scyir's left me wanting to have a few things to say. I swiftly realized that I would be hijacking some poor misguided fools thread and filling it with my own opinions and negativity. I decided to do it here in stead where such thoughts belong.

So I have been doing some theory machine and tests on the Scyir. I personally do not like them with eVyros at all. I do think it has a place however.

Scyris are little battle field bad asses, They are Dawnguard who have served for the longest time with distinction and honor.  I like to think of them as Judges from Judge Dredd. The good movie not the camp one.

I broke it down like this.
If I want to jack Marshall something for a free re roll what do I want to Marshall for a good point investment that can sit outside of a battle group with no penalty.

Jack marshaling compared to battle group:

Rahn, Force blast... I want that
Kaelyssa, Witch Hound... not happy to loose that
Ravyn, works.
Ossyan, Potential we hardly want chronomancer on a light ever.
pVyros, Loose the feat and mobility, not worth it.
eVyros, loose synergy not worth it.
Garyth, works.

Options for the Jack Marshal:
Gorgon, lets not and never think of this again. Bad gun, a re roll on the combo smite is still not a good investment. 7 points too much

Griffon, Works. Reach light good for flanking. Pow 13 pretty independent, needs a re roll? with a free mat 8 charge not really. 6 points good.

Chimera, duh. Mirage can give some tricky movement shenanigans but yea. no.

Aspis, Good. A tough little jack that can shield guard whether its in a battle group or not. With a free focus and a re roll it can chew through easy to hit stuff and can be used to move things around in zones with beat back. Being able to shield guard the Scyir ups his survivability also.

So then I looked at the reason I wanted Scyirs in the first place CMD 10. Lots of my stuff fails command checks, particularly the solos and the house guard. I didn't want to invest the 4 points in a thane in every list especially when they are racing up the sides flanking.

Dawngaurd are CMD 10 with the UA and almost always come with their UA's so the Scyirs CMD was kind of wasted. But they get Teamwork or whatever it is which gives them their own personal version of Marshal Discipline.
= Useless CMD but can move through other dawnguard I'll give that a 4/5

House Guard, they can really benefit from this CMD bonus hanging around but he doesn't get to move through them with him or his Jack. Despite this the Marshal Discipline is a bit secondary to being able to keep your troops in a fight.
= CMD good but no MD. 4/5

Solos, nearly all of our solos benefit from the CMD bonus being around and near the center of our force and not on some flank. Ok now we are talking, nearly all of our casters, or more specifically the ones who can take a Scyir and even use it to marshal will benefit from its higher CMD stat.

Whittling down the synergies
Ok so we have a Scyir and either a Griffon or an Aspis. I started to pick apart who really benefits from the combinations out of the three casters I would consider.

Assassination/support potential
The Griffon can be an accurate mat 8 p+s 13, 15 with concentrated power main hand attack. Probably wont kill a caster by its self, if you can deliver it anyway.
Doing some really basic maths your looking at a 13+ average 9 (on charge) follows up by a 9 + average 7 damage
13+9+9+7 = 38 damage before armor.
A power 13 will cut down most any infantry but a power 9 with no reach can be shunted off by things like Thralls, Errants and otehr arm 16 or defensive line infantry.

The Aspis comes in with 2 power 11 attacks, 13 with concentrated power.
13+9+13+7 = 42
Power 11/13 will more reliably kill low defence higher armored infantry, you do however loose  the reach weapon but beat back helps get around this.
It looses the +2 mat on a charge but you still have the re roll if you drive it, swee as. It can shield guard, this is pretty awesome.  While it doesn't have the same armor as the Griffon it boasts a Pheonix Field, so its free d6 shield regeneration and extra 4 boxes is a pretty big deal.
Its not an assassination piece either, but with beat back its arguably an assassination and scenario tool.

Ravyn:
Griffon. I want to run Invictors with Ravyn so there is a nice flank option.  Her spell list is mostly worthless however apart from Locomotion which it wont get. 2/5
Aspis. A shield guard is always good. Using beat back to move things around is also always good. Still doesn't benefit from feat or snipe or spell list in general 3/5
Ossyan:
See Ravyn, replace the words snipe and locomation with chronomancer.
Garyth
Griffon. You could give it Mirage, pretty pants on a Griffon really.
Aspis. Gareth hates getting shot, sure he has stealth but just in case, shield guard. Re roll misses through death sentence on a jack with beat back can be great for clearing light infantry.Using the beat back to move things closer to Garyth is kind of what Garyth is all about.

The conclusion?
Garyth with an Aspis, maybe 2 Aspides and both Jack Marshalled. So I tried it, and it seemed ok.
I ran by way of typical Garyth for me Dahlia Hallyr and Skarath + a unit of Sentinels. The marshal discipline was nice for moving through in unexpected charge lanes and pushing things away from my sentinels so they were un engaged and could re charge or move to new targets was nice. The unseen non linear bonus to Garyths threat via beat back was also nice.
I got into thinking about the list more and realized dropping Skaraths Riposte animus on the Scyirs would make them rather un desirable targets for enemy infantry  (def 15 mat 10 p+s12 flankers) and think I will try the combination out some more.

The bad stuff

So far I only see a reason to run this with Garyth, who is pretty much terrible. I think there is still value in taking one or 2 in a general list in place of MHA's because they are more survivable, offer a CMD buff for your army and are more reliable in damage output. If you are not jack marshaling them then they may have more of a solid placing in most armies than some of the other solos.

Therefore my solo selection goes something in this order.

Arcanist
Artificer
Characters
Magister
Scyir
Mage Hunter Assassin
Destor Thane
Ghost Sniper

If I left any out its obviously because I don't use them or refuse to admit they exist. Apart from the soulless attachment who has a selection process all of its own

First game vs Vindictus, Menoth vs pVyros, Supply and Demand.
I'm not sure if this was a tier list but it was pretty scary. He had the battle engine, 2 units of Bastions with the UA on each one, Zealots with the Monolith and a min unit of cleansers, choir and mechanics and 2 light flamethrower jacks.

It was pretty scary looking at that list, he only had the one so left the ball in my court. Thankfully I decided to run with three lists, I almost did not take pVyros.

I chose pVyros to play against him and took first turn. Hype got a nice crit consume off on the Zealots while they had mini feat up and removed the monolith, I positioned around to cut down the charge from his Bastions with Halberdiers on my left flank, on my right I threw the Banshee out so the other unit of Bastions couldn't charge it or my Pheonix who was also on that flank.

The Banshee took a few Bastions while the Pheonix took the rest, they couldn't charge so damage was minimal. Cleansers started work on clearing out my Halberdiers but only got about 3 of them, he then feated. The Bastions worked on a few more of the Halberdiers reducing them to about half. The Zealots attacked Hype and barely scratch him with Invoiable resolve up.

Pvyros feated dropped 1 focus on Hype and one on the Pheonix and moved to the edge of the scenario zone. Hype made a power attack sweep on 5 Zealots and 2 Bastions but only connected with 2 of the zealots. With some bought attacks and some help from the remaining Halberdiers I fueled up the Pheonix and the Banshee. The Banshee cleared out the opposing objective and put some damage on the Bastions around it and the Pheonix cleared out a few more. I ended my turn on 1 points.
The following turn he wrecked Hype with the other unit of Bastions + UA and threw his entire army at it. I was pretty much left with Vyros and the 2 Jacks who were getting field repairs all the way through this. The Battle Engine was doing a good job of finishing up my Halbs.

So Vyros charged the Bastion UA and killed it, and the 2 jacks cleared out the zone for Vyros to dominate. He rocked into the Hypes wreck, camped focus and girded his loins. He responded by Killing the Banshee dropping a load of flame attacks on Vyros, some of which killed off his own Bastions. Obviously he re contested the zone. In order to score again I needed to kill a few things + finish off the unit of Bastions (2 guys) my Pheonix was 3 inches away from Vindictus and Vyros was less than 7".

So Lanyssa Charged one Bastion finishing it off and the Pheonix moved in to engage Vindictus and killed the other bastion. Rather than clearing the zone with Vyros I charged and killed Vindictus with 2 attacks.

Second game Trolls with eGrimm vs Rahn, Amunition Run.
This guy had 2 lists but it was his second game so he was free with his choice.
I knew this player, he was good. There is not much to say here, I took second turn? Basically he jammed me with the fast running mini feat guys, and lobbed some aoes at me. He positioned Grimm up behind a wall and put his Bomber in front of it. Early on he had some good scatters and luck killing off some support.

Anyway I start my 3rd turn and see the opportunity to slam his Bomber over Grimm. I feat and do this, clearing out some room with my Halbs to get my Mittens in range. He is on 2 transfers but from the Collateral damage + the full unit of Batte Mages I get the kill, tho he toughed twice first. I also moved my Pheonix around to kill the opposing objective and score a point.

Third game I play pHexeris vs pVyros, Into the Breach.
He had 3 lists but didnt want to be locked into the last match up so went with Hex.
I was expecting this match up, and I was expecting who I would play if I won this game. So I took pVyros fully knowing I was locking myself in on Ravyn for the last game.

Happy with the choice however. He had the Mammoth, 2 of the lizard dog things, 2 guys who did puppet master, unit of Gators with the UA and a unit of Nihilators. Also had a Cyclops with a gun. His turns were spent running at me while I walked forward and shot things. Halbs took a charge from his Gators and half the Nihilators and kept kicking back. I strangle held one the light Warbeasts that he was using as arc nodes early on and in the second turn killed it with a Pheonix combustion while the Banshee killed the other and cleared the zone letting me control it for a point. I planned to trade the Banshee and let Hyperion kill the Mammoth.

There was a hairy moment when an AoE drifted over the Banshee and banged up Lanyssa pretty bad but she pulled through...
His Gators were tied up with my Halbs and a couple of his remaining Nihilators put some damage on the Pheonix. He charged the Mammoth at the Pheonix and one shot it, and proceeded to have the reach and fury to kill the Banshee also. He only toed the zone with the Mammoth however so, my next turn I put three on Hype, concentrated powered him and hit the Mammoth with hunters mark. Hype charged it and killed it and Vyros camped and ran into the zone to dominate. He responded by trying to shoot Vyros with his Cyclops which did 3 damage, then Charged hype with Hexeris and went for a spell assassination on Vyros which did nothing. I cleared the solo soul catching spell castery thingee he had in the zone with Lanyssa charging it, Hype power attack head butted Hexeris into the dirt with Arcanist focus and Vyros finished him off. I won on full points.

Game 4 was Mercenaries Bart vs Ravyn, Fire Control.
He was Bart, Galleon, Wrong Eye, Snap Jaw, Bull Snapper, Sylys, Aiyanna and Holt, eEyriss, Thror, a light jack another light jack with Shield Guard, Gorman, Dougal Mcnail.
Basically it was Team Galleon.

The scenario was not in his favor, and I was more than happy to be locked into my Ravyn list. He was super extra scared of the snipe feat go assassination run, almost to the point where he would have kill boxed himself. However he was also show boating a little, I figured he wanted to bait it out of me early, considering Bart was 15/16 I'd say there was a good chance of failure.

However he did bait it out. In his second turn he killed 2 Strike Force with AOE's and walked back as close to his table edge while being able to walk back into the kill box next turn. I feated and moved in with the Strike Force. 5 were in range, 4 hit one was shield guarded but I rolled above average and put 8 damage on him. The following turn he killed all but one of the strike force, killed one of my Manticores, killed pEyriss, moved Galleon up and put Bart behind him, then blocked his left flank LOS with the Shield Guard Jack.

I switched snipe on to the Invictors. The Force Generator momentum cannoned his Light Jack down and away freeing up the LOS on that flank and dropping his Shield Guard. The Invictors went in with mini feat for 18" combines, of the unit 8 were in range and the others couldn't draw LOS or were out of range. 3 combines were enough however ( re roll misses are amazing) and I took him down. Failing the AFG slam shot I was ready to score 3 points on scenario potentially

I have placed decently in tournaments before and took out a small 6 man one not long ago, but this is my first first place and many of them were some of the best players in the Meta. Won a Cryx Battle Box tho, any buyers?

Also pVyros, totally legit.

TLDR
The lists represented in this tournament were considered by some to not be standard for the local Meta. I don't quite agree, Auckland sees a strong Hordes following and the lack of Khador and Menoth are quite normal.
While I did crutch my third caster with being Ravyn I hardly ever play her before, but I knew she was a strong match up against some of those stronger tournament lists so thats why I put her in. The other two were to give me scenario and assassination options.
I specifically locked myself in for Ravyn expecting who I would be playing off against, and am happy about that strategy. I think in 3 lists formats retribution really starts to get some good flexibility and work around their bad match ups. Ret does get bad match ups I agree, but Ret has the tools to fight them if they can take them. The problem is fitting all of those tools into 2 lists. 3 lists gave me a lot more breathing space.

Time for an onion. *opinion

So its been many months since I have made a post.

While things have been a little quiet I have still been getting in a game a fortnight, usually against gators. My irrational hatred for Gators and Rask means I didn't really feel compelled to post another whine fest about why I have problems with them.

As those feeling percolate over the months and my gusto for games improves, a fore mentioned feelings of inadequacy against Gators have frothed up into a brimming broth of opinion about my faction, The Retribution of Scyrath.

I suppose I'm a veteran player but in my gaming circle I'm still one of the newbs, although also one of the more active players who plays in tournaments. My group still hand out solid beatings of the caliber that maybe only half of the active tournament scene could muster. They are talented skilled and intelligent opponents to say the least.

Amid my endless frustration against Rask my opponent offered to switch factions for the game. He crafted an eVyros list and I put down a Rask list. Although he is a very skilled player and managed to put on the pressure a few times I mostly felt in control with Rask and pulled out the win.

Not being the most confident in my own experience I still think its about time to give my opinion on whats good in Ret and whats not. Some neat tricks and some dumb ones and overall strategies and tactics one can employ to gain success on the table-field.

Ten Things I Hate about Epic Vyros "Bird Dick on a Horse"

So its a normal Monday morning, class is settling in early in the semester and then the new guy who the other girls have been talking about saunters in on his pony. You cant help but get lost in his birds eyes and your mind wanders over his dual purpose sword and gun. As he sits down next to you excitement flushes through your veins like turds after the morning tea coffee.

Who is this mysterious epic hero?

Let the romance float for a little while longer. Any engagement in dialogue will reveal a dim witted jock covering up for a terrible spell list with someone else's smooth lines.
"Hey babe, Synergy and Easy Rider" he winks and smiles confidently.
But be brave, throw your mind back to what the other girls in the toilets were saying.
"I heard he has twister and lock the target."
"Oh my god, why would you need both of those"
"For variety I guess?"
fade out with condescending girlish laughter that only female teens are capable of.

Ignore those other skills that he flaunts around, yes he may have an amazing horse, impact attacks, ride by attacks, and the oh so amazing quick work but even with all of this he is still a mere shadow of his former self in Prime school.

And the rumors are true, he does have the herpes of feats. He may tell you hes on medication, he may also tell you that it has made him sterile so you wont get knocked up or horrifying disfiguring blisters. But is it really worth the risk? One wrong move and you can cause yourself more damage with him than any ill meaning challenger might, he may in fact set you up to allow someone else to take advantage of you.

Trust me, keep away from this guy.

Now I suppose you just cant take my word for it so Ill have to give some opinions or "facts"

Stats:
This guy has a solid stat line, in fact one of the best in the game as it stands at this time.
His defensive stats are through the roof and arguably need to be, as he is capable of attracting quite a lot of attention. He has the mobility to be a threat, Ill give him that but most opponents know not to get too close or block charge lanes or sit in rough terrain.
Even if you can deliver him, and he has all of his focus, which he often wont have he will be mat 10 on the charge and mat 8 on subsequent attacks. That's in the realms of pretty darn good, and power 14. But delivery is still an issue, and on any caster that will die to those attacks they are likely in the places you cant reach him, any other will likely be able to tank/transfer off the damage.
I thought he was a bit of a boss but after failing to kill a Scythean, Carnivean, Mauler or whatever on multiple occasions and dieing the following turn I kind of realise he really wants to stay back like the rest of our softer skinned casters.

Hes like a hot date that needs to go home because his mother said so, after dinner but before the movie. He looks like he wants to be right up there, and he can be but he cant finish the deed. Either he has problems with delivery or hes just not as potent as you may have given him credit for. His prime version for example with the same focus but more armor if he upkeeps IR can fit into tighter spots, and hit more consistently and considerably harder as long as he has a warjack nearby, which thankfully Retribution now has a stonking great hulk of a Hyperion that is pVyros's best bestest buddy ever.

Dont get me wrong eVyros can be forward in your army, but its the usual retribution situation of, don't send a warcaster when any girl with spiky hair can probably do the job better.
With this result Vyros really needs to bring more to the table than his pretend assassination potential, which sadly is pretty limited.

Spells:

Twister:
I have almost never cast this spell, why oh why would they take eliminator away and give us Twister instead. Its like taking a transformers jigsaw puzzle away from a 6 year old boy and giving him a Seasame Street kittens fit-the-shape toy and telling him to stop blubbing. There is always potential with eliminator, and Sylys just makes it easier. giving us twister in stead is like coating your testicles in peanut butter in the hopes that those longing looks the neighbors schnauzer were giving you are not being misinterpreted.
 Its, A, trap.

Lock the target:
Once again we loose a better spell for this one. Its common for warcasters to get one signature nuke spell and a bunch of other stuff but instead eVyros gets a bad aoe nuke followed up by an even worse control nuke, and its made more insulting by being worse than its original version. I have won games using Stranglehold, its a great spell. I have done nothing but look at Lock the target and continually wonder why I took eVyros and not pVyros. You have some potential to do something maybe with this spell, but anything that you would want to control with is likely to be either too hard to hit or damage, and your not going to have the Focus spare after upkeeping synergy and casting either deflection or easy rider. You'll likely waste the focus to probably fail to lock something down that something else cant take advantage of to kill you or your arc node.
Waste, Of, Time

Deflection.
Alright here is something that supports his army and benefits him in a way. When you upkeep it it gives you the same effective armor against shooting. But it doesn't help in the front line if your charging or receiving a melee oriented retaliation. its good for helping the troops get there against raged blast damage but then so is an Artificer. The thing it doesn't do is effect your jacks, who are the ones that could benefit the most from high damage ranged attacks because they are reasonably fragile as they are and want to keep back and whittle down a target before engaging it. Especially if your spamming light jacks to take advantage of synergy.
Situational but useful if not obsolete.

Easy Rider.
Sure Ret needs this, this is great. But its at a cost. As eVyros starts to boil down here it always seems that he is about exchange at a cost. I know buying into a genocidal race of endangered isolationist human haters comes with its tropes but embedding them into its leaders in game play style is getting a bit too carried away at the expense of playability. On a 6 focus casters cost 3 is asking a lot, and its a real kick in the wickets when he doesn't get to benefit from it. I mean people argue about Mirage being a high investment spell before you see return but Easy Rider isn't even an upkeep. Still it will help deliver those Deflection assisted Sentinels even better, as long as you keep everything within control.

Synergy:
So here it is, the "Signature" spell for eVyros. Except it isn't, its someone elses. Someone who arguably does better with it because he has better light jacks in his faction. We only really have one light to take advantage of this spell. Its fine on our heavies, but again the focus investment on heavy jacks that are essentially multi purpose in their applications, weep a little bit when they are shoe horned into beat stick by a dick on a horse with a  bird on his shoulder who cant jump a log to save himself.
Really this spell should be renamed to Paganergy, or Griffonergy because that's what it inevitably leads itself to.
But wait, what about its effects on the V man himself I hear you harp. The bottom line is your better off keeping the focus to make more fail attacks rather than spend it around to make or hope your griffons can add to the chain, on things that are easy enough to hit or are in range. Oh its not all that bad it can be pretty brutal but it still seems misplaced most of the time. Aside from the Griffon Rets lights are just not made for smashing face. On the heavies its a strong spell but unless you build one dimensional jack spam lists your tool box will be very limited. basically it boils down to a +1/2 mat/str buff for 2 focus and an upkeep. Which is ok
It, Is, OK

Anecdote. I ran into a Retribution opponent at the last big tournament who was from another city, while comparing lists I asked him how he planned to deal with the heavy armor cracking. He pointed to eVyros, 2 griffons and a Banshee and said, they will do it, they can smash through anything. When we were paired up to each other I decided to put it through the test and ran Ossyan with Hyperion against him. Tactfully I removed his Griffons and Arcanists and the Banshee couldn't do the job. While Ossyan ended up engaged with said banshee with one box remaining Vyros failed to do the job himself trying to attack Ossyan camping and behind cover. That's the point where I thought if he was pVyros he would have got the job done. I won the game and solidified my position as top Ret player.

The Feat:
Tides of war. This feat is a reactionary feat. Much like pVyros a lot of it has to do with your opponent, where as pVyros cares about your army composition eVyros cares about... well nothing really. eVyros is a poker face wrapped in a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a fox, trapped in a coconut in a fist that belongs to a monkey that's too dumb to realise that letting go is the only way to get his hand back. Tides of War could be known as all or nothing, or perhaps Oh Fuck Oops.
Its a feat that can be good with a large amount of skill on your own behalf but can be equally nullified by your opponents level of skill. Its not going to dominate your table for one round or demolish half the enemies army, it may be a win condition if you are clever and your opponent doesn't see it. Really Tides of War is a feat which hedges on your skill being greater than your opponents, and your ability to force his hand. The problem with forcing your opponents hand is, as any Sun Tzu student will tell you, an enemy forced into an uncompromising situation fights... well... uncompromisingly. It should come with a warning which reads, "results may differ." and "contains traces of potential"
While one can get giddy with the potential of racing your minis around the board while out of activation and block charge lanes and such, you must be aware that when one door closes another opens, and you may be creating windows of opportunity for your opponent as much as closing them.

What does Vyros do?
Vyros is a tank. His feat gives him a turn of potential control while he possesses the stats to take a beating and return the favor. I believe he is NOT an initiator or an assassin. He can wade up the field support his infantry and get them there. More so he is an APC, he delivers things. If Vyros were a courier company he would be Sub60, both in the rapidity in which he can deliver an army and the amount of time you can expect the game to be won or lost.
What doesnt Vyros do?
He does not assassinate. He does not control. He reacts in the best way possible and its usually in more subtle ways than by delivering a mat 12 p+s 20 Griffon. Synergy can be a trap in that the more links in the chain the more chances for failure and if your relying on Vyros to be an integral part of that chain and not just a synergy upkeep bot your putting him at unnecessary risk. Retribution has Mage Hunter Assassins for a reason, and going through all of that effort and focus to deliver a Griffon which may end up doing as much as a 2 point model un assisted just doesn't work out to be making good fight in my head.

Tips, Tricks, Strategy, Tactics, Traps

The Ying Yang approach

In dark corners of the forums you may hear tale of the worst model in the game of Warmachine and Hordes. Something so evil and vile, something so useless and harmful to itself that it is shunned by any with a clue. I am talking about the souless contrivance of a malicious game designer known as Nayl. People have termed him the last Nayl in the coffin of the Retribution, and players have talked about killing him themselves although he was fighting for their army.
Take heed of these warnings but don't flee just yet. Warning theorymachine follows.
Nayl really jumps off the shelf and shines a whole face melting new level of luminosity when paired up with eEyriss and eVyros.
Nayl is in a unique position under eVyros feat with that extra 7" of positioning. If he runs the turn Vyros feats he can be moved potentially 21" up the board, which is a nice 12" away from any potential power attacks trying to throw it back at Vyros.Which lets be honest, is the one thing you never want to have happen with Nayl. But to ensure he gets that movement to really get stuck in there where he will be most annoying and cause the most disruption you need to force your opponent into making a kill. Eyriss is a great combo to run alongside Nayl. Need to give that Jack focus? kill Eyriss and Nayl walks right up next to your caster, free strike him if you dare. Need to clear Nayl out so you can kill Eyriss? Eyriss can now reposition to safety or an even more annoying spot. Throw Narn in there and you have a potential assassination run waiting to happen also. All while Vyros was at least 12" away feeding his bird.

Here be Griffons.

These jacks are made for the Vyros synergy chain. Link them in with Lanyssa Ryssyl giving free charges and they are a great mat 8 way to get the ball rolling for 0 focus investment. They already have path finder so you don't need to waste that precious fury casting Easy Rider but will a p+s 13+synergy really be enough to seal the deal? its backed up by a shield in the off hand, the accuracy makes them great for hitting high defense but even with 3 griffons in the chain and with Vyros your only hitting at p+s 17 before the arcanist. For the cost of 2 Griffons a Manticore will start the ball rolling at p+s 20 without arcanists or synergy. For 16 points with Synergy and Artificers 2 Manticores are batting at around mat 7/8 p+s 23/24 all with an extra attack, they charge as far, can shoot and are more survivable. If your going for more than 2 Griffons then it better be more like 6. Alternative light jacks that are good however would be the Aspis.

Not Gorgons

No, no matter how much you try to think about it Gorgons are a bad idea, more expensive than Griffons hit softer and have a horrible corner case skill that will in more cases than not turn your 5 point jack into a 5 point distraction. Compared to a Griffon this jack will not perform, it never did, and have yet to make one do something special under Vyros' feat when the opponent knows what they are capable of.

The Cavalry Division

Ive seen it in the forums, as part of the tier list. It seems like it facilitates Vyros in delivering things even better, speed 8 things in fact. The problem is they are over priced and un focused units that only get a chance to become playable in a tier list. I haven't tried it and never will, especially now we have Infiltrators why bother. The cavalry doesn't know if it wants to be shooting or charging or in melee, the thing the list gets kudos for is jamming your enemy early on. This can be a risky tactic and will lead to bad list match ups.

Birds Eye

People still forget about this ability, for this reason I always want to have a Banshee and some equivalently ranged high power shooting in my list to back it up, the problem is the Synergy build wants to you move away from those jacks. Vyros list building is very contradictory but in the end pVyros enables a birds eye ranged assassination run much better, so leave it to him and let eVyros do synergy and delivery. The problem is Birds Eye is almost open to as much abuse from your opponents as it is from you, Moving around inside Jacks 360 melee arcs can be frustrating as you watch your jacks fail to lock anyone into place. But wait what about the Gorgon you cry. No just no it dies too easily and the effect is tied to its 2 measly G boxes so half the time you hit it once or twice and its ineffective anyway. The worst insult is when an opponent can move around behind the Hyperion and leave its melee range without Hype getting to make free strikes, Never take hype with eVyros.

Sentinels

These guys are made for eVyros, fearless, harder to kill and with path finding, Vengeance to make those Tides of War movements even more threatening. win win win.

Halberdiers

In any situation where you would take Halbs over Sents the same applies for eVyros, cosidering how much more eVyros can facilitate the delivery of the Sentinels  you will want to be taking them.

Battle Mages

These guys are welcome with eVyros, they help to play well into his control aspects and enable your jacks to reach and hit their targets.

Infiltrators

Made more survivable with Deflection for at least a turn, before they are too far ahead to be inside eVyros' control. There is the chance that a couple of Tides moves means you can have 2 threatening an enemy caster but as always with Tides of War so much depends on your opponents ability to deal with it.

Mage Hunter Strike Force

Aside from Deflection eVyros does nothing for these guys, and if your building the 9000 griffons approach the number of things you will need engaging enemy models and killing weaker jacks leaves the MHSF with little few good targets.

Invictors.

Solid with eVyros, better with pVyros. Because you should never ever ever under any circumstance be running Hyperion with eVyros Invictors do not have the best flank bot in the game to run around with.

Riflemen

Normally I wouldnt even consider talking about these guys, not that they are bad, I just dont own them. But the new ruling for thier mini feat gives eVyros feat some application, by moving the UA a little closer before activating them and feating you could theoretically get the UA 12" up the board, remaining in 10" command and marking all enemy within 8" of him for the Whites of Thier Eyes. This means the rest of the unit can be safely 14" away at max range, well still in command I guess but shooting further than 8" away. Being able to combine into combat means you can take advantage of all those Griffons, Destors, Sentinels or Destors you have rampaging around in the front ranks there.

Solo's of note

Mage Hunter Assassins: Tides of War feat moves can be game changing, again depends on opponent as much as you

Magister: His knock down spell and whipsnap really help eVyros and his battle group move around more freely and hit more accurately.

Artificer: eVyros really benefits from the +2 defense and the Artificer loves the armor from Deflection.

eEyriss: stepping her in near the end of an opponents activations to cause Technological interference can be very amusing. Again smart opponents wont let this happen.

Lanyssa Ryssyl: eVyros always always wants this solo, blah blah shes hard to keep alive, no she isnt. with an 18" threat on hunters mark she can be well back and safe until she is needed. One just needs to be able to read the table to make sure she is in the right area at the right time.

Jacks not to take and to take.

As I said Gorgons. Chimeras also don't have much use, eVyros in general doesnt need an arc node, thus a Phoenix is not so important with him. Hydras are as always a bad idea
Griffons are on the top of the list, even one kicked off by Lanyssa is an easy way to notch a point up on Synergy. Banshees are a great jack to have, either to run in tandem with a pair of Manticores or jsut one supported by the Griffons they can hit very hard, can take a few hits and moving one up to start Wailing with a Tides activation can really crimp an opponents plans. Manticores these guys are good jacks in general, its often better to have 2 than 1 to take advantage of their covering fire more fully but with Synergy they just get that much better. The Aspis also loves synergy, its cheap like a Griffon and has shield gaurd which is useful when Vyros is such a big target.

Hyperion
No.
Birds eye abuse, a feat that cant be used, 18 points for one contributor or receiver of synergy, that could be 2 Manticores and 2 Arcanists, that could be 4 Griffons. eVyros does nothing for Hype and Hype doesn't care much for him, since Prime school they had a serious falling out from when they used to be like cheese and crackers.

The Bottom Line
When eVyros came out I was excited as the next elf about everything he did. I ignored the down sides and just rejoiced over Easy Rider and Synergy. I always looked at the potential of the feat. Over time it becomes apparent that eVyros is a victim of overbalance. OB has become endemic to mark II design in Warmachine  and Hordes but here it suffers worse than normal. Your constantly Challenged to make choices, from list design, to play style to win conditions and strategies. From the Feat to the Battlegroup your sacrificing one thing for something else. There are no auto includes but then nothing really shines, other than one dimensional skew lists, and even then they dont shine they just kind of shimmer.
In the end I don't see, have not seen other people play with and have not had with my own experience a reason to think eVyros is all that and a bag of chips. Most of the time I'm left wishing he was pVyros, or I'm making some hideous game changing mistake with his feat, or I'm crushing some poor unsuspecting victim with his feat. He can have a decent shock factor against unsuspecting opponents but  relying on gimmicks, traps and your opponents inability to read the rules and interpret them on to the table is just bad game play.

eVyros:
Mid level caster, front range tank with little support and assassination potential.
Good for stomping newbies or good with exceptionally skilled players.
Struggles with list balance and composition, bad spell list with an ok and a better than ok spell to make up for it, which it doesn't.
This guy will not make it into my serious tournament lists simply because everything about him is too Bi Polar and my skill level is not high enough.

Ravyn batrep 1 vs Epic Morvahna

Had a 50 point game vs Circles new caster, Epic Morvahna

The lists:
Ravyn
MHSF + UA
Invictors + UA + Souless
Discordia
Dahlia Hallyr and Skarath
Magister
Artificer
Destor Thane
Arcanist
Mage Hunter Assassin
Mage Hunter Assassin

I was planning to run Hyperion and the Arcantric Force Generator however I left the AFG at a friends place so went with this alternate list. I like Dahlia Hallyr and Skarath and the anti living tech they bring to the table, Skarath is also a solid beast on its own.

Epic Morvahna
Full Wolf Riders
Full Skinwalkers + Skinwalker Alpha UA
Shifting stones
Shifting stones + Stonekeeper UA
Gatorman Witch Doctor
Stalker
Stalker
Goraxe
Gallows Grove
Gallows Grove

The skinwalkers getting 2 attacks each at mat 8 with the UA and Carnivore now are a real big threat. I was thinking to either shoot them away or get the sprays down on them. Overall I figured Morvahna was failry wek to ranged assassination and planned to use the feat turn to put as much damage on her to either kill her, hurt her beasts and or make it hard for her to feat effectively.

My first turn the Strike Force bunched up around the artificer  for defense as they were preyed by the Wolf Riders. With snipe I landed several shots and manged to kill 2 wolf riders. The Mage Hunter Assassin out the front charged a Gallows Grove and removed it from the table.

Unfortunately in his counter turn the Skinwalkers engaged the strike force, even without their +2 bonus speed, and made the full unit fail its command check, the remaining wolf riders just assaulted, killed a few and engaged more with light cav moves.

Even without the Strike Force I quickly assessed assassination potential. If I was able to clear one skinwalker with say, Ravyn, Discordia, a Mage Hunter Assassin and potentially an Artificer I can get the full unit of Invictors + the Destor Thane under Ravyns feat to fire on Morvahna, camping 5 transfers, that's 5 combines and potentially 5 more rat 7 3d6 power 12 damage at d-3 shots.... seemed good.

The mage hunter assassin missed, Discordia failed to damage it, I left the Assassin too close so when Ravyn moved in and feated she also failed to kill it. I went with the Thane anyway and couldnt clear the hedge while staying inside feat range, so he couldn't contribute.

Considering what was going to happen next turn I went on with shooting Morvahna to soften up the beasts, because with Fog of War up they were perma stealth. With snipe and the mini feat Extended Fire on the Invictors I tagged Morvahna for about 10 damage and made her transfer 4 times.

So the next turn the stalkers come in, wreck Discordia and take a chunk out of the strike force, the Skinwalkers also come in and kill most of the Invictors and Carnivore heals up Morvahna. He has left however both of his stalkers in reach range of Ravyn. The Strike Force rally, now that half of them are dead. Ravyn steps up and threshers the Stalkers and starts going Gun Foo on them, she kills one and leaves the other on about 10 boxes. The strike force step in and leave it on one box, phenomenally bad dice rolls.  Skarath charges accross and boosts and attack, and fails to hit, buys and boosts again and fails again.

So the Magister which was killing and pushing around WolF Riders slams Skarath over the Strike Force engaging the Stalker and into the Stalker, killing Skarath and Killing the Stalker and killing about 3 strike force. Cool move but not what I wanted to really do.

Morvahna responds by feating and throwing more stuff into the zone.

At this point he is on about 3 control points and I have 2. If I could have run Dahlia into the Zone to control and used Ravyn to clear the friendly zone to Dominate I would win, but I pointed out that after I killed Skarath and the rest of the strike force had melted he actually scored a point and took the win on scenario by simply ending his turn.

Failing command checks on Strike force with Ravyn before you Feat is super lame.

Emorv is pretty neat but I don't think she is super sweet, Will Pagani won a tournament with her and with pretty much this same list. He is Will Pagani, I remember him winning this time last year by warpathing a Gnarl Horn and killing Thyra. I think he is just good at applying strategy and tactics quickly to get ahead of his opponents, and EMorv would have been a nice example of a Curve-ball new caster in the hands of a very skilled player. He can also write some semi decent lists and apply them well without much practice.

I mentioned to my opponent that being aware I cant attrition that battle I would be going straight for assassination and a 15/15 caster on a large base that is want to cut herself is a pretty good target, however he seems adamant that he can keep her safe.

We will see in future games.

Beermachine 2013

With a hiss a roar and a flipping of the bird Beermachine had begun. Luke paced anxiously back and forth while Andrew made his toast for breakfast and washed it down with the first beer of the day. Tim whined about how crap the mountain king was and Alan sat around thinking about anything other than warmachine because his list played itself, he really was just there to move it around and roll dice. As I prepared my lists Glenn showed up late and filled out the 8th place so I could stand around and drink Gin and Tonic all day.

There were 8 competitors and 6 factions represented:

Circle championed by Andrew and Luke
Skorne/Gators annexed/disowned by JS
Trolls trawled by Tim
Mercs hired by Glenn
Cygnar heralded by Josh and Damon
and Cryx who enslaved Alan to physically move them across the table.

I believe unintentionally JS may have given Luke an awkward game. I'm not sure why I just picked up that vibe. On the far table the Winner of the tournament is about to auto pilot over Andrews circle list. Ouch.

Product placement.

I was considering 4 rounds but 3 was enough, especially since JS appeared about to snap after the second. The photo of the game above was the infamous one where he claimed to roll, or roll equivalent to 3 trip ones in a row.
Sometimes dice just screw you, sometimes they bend you over penetrate you in all manner of unpleasant ways and then jizz in your eye.

Gentlemanly gentlemen go about a literal blue on blue match. Swans vs Cygnets maybe? To be honest I don't remember who won but its a whole lot of Cygnar and looks about as boring as goose poop to me.

Glenn's face says it all really.
Throughout the games I also kept a tally of what I called Bitch Points. These were awarded to players who inordinately complained about their list, dice rolls or general bad luck.  I realised as a TO its a giant douche of a move to do and may be seen as an effort to contain uncontrollable raging and force people to have more amicable games. However I merely did it because I'm a giant douche.

In the end once people learn about it I think they did control their rage, and for some it was probably not a good idea. I am now sure of that many of us play games, just so we can rage about things. Its an important psychological benefit to be able to purge negative pent up energy. Even if all the negative energy you have is about how crap the Mountain King is or how bad the Dice raped you the act of raging about it restores balance, catharsis. I miss not doing Judo because of the violent outlet it gave me and for many people their sports and hobbies are probably the same, I was much calmer when I got to strangle people and throw them around the room. It appears we males all need our moments of controlled and regulated violence or we may just pop.

 So anyway who won

Alan first. Awarded with the Peanut of first place

Josh second. Awarded with the Peanut of second place

No third place cause I'm useless

Peanut of Assassination awarded to Glenn (fastest assassination)

Peanut of the Destroyer awarded to Josh (most kill points)

Peanut of the Tactician awarded to Luke (most scenario points)

Groin Guard of the Defeated (box) awarded to JS for constantly getting kicked in the nuts.

Most Bitch Points was pretty close. I should say you could only make 5 points per game. 3 players maxed points on their first game and then only scored 1 or 2 more points in the subsequent ones. A part of the scoring also went into if you bitched about something, and then went on to win with it. For this fact
Awarded to Tim. His whining over the Mountain King ended up edging out Damon's particular rage over bad dice just before he beat JS who had worse dice. I think his Mountain King did rather well and with more sound tactical application (using him and learning him more and not given the forums any credit) it will do him well.

Overall it was a blaring success, many hangovers were had by all and the pizza that Andrew shouted us did not cause one bout of diarrhea, well done. Everyone had fun apart from JS who will either never play again or murder the neighbors in his sleep. Sorry JS, next Beermachine acquiring Bitch Points will be encouraged not discouraged, and you'll be able to rage as much as you like.

Post Ides Syndrome: The Dissolusioned Underpowered Faction Disorder.

So as the blog title mentions, procrastination is a big part of my wargaming, I need somewhere to do it now that I'm not studying.

Ides was a fantastic tournament in a good location with excellent competition and great people. It was a resounding success, although I didnt win. However there are 2 main gripes. The first was playing against the same Retribution opponent twice. I know some other players had it worse off with their draws but if I'm going to complain about anything that's it.
The only other thing was I found many of the scenarios difficult to score from. Essentially because they required the destruction of an objective before the zones were free uncontested, or what was many times the case, the enemy caster basically just sat in front of my army and forced me to kill him or I would be in a bad position the following turns, because my casters were not the up front kind.

This resulted in one of the two following scenarios.

1: I'm Retribution so killing a caster isn't an issue. I remove whatever is in the way or go around it depending on my caster and secure the kill, failing this make sure his counter turn will not hurt by removing as much vital pieces as I need to and facilitating my armies ability to deliver whats needed where its needed.

or

2: I'm Retribution so killing a caster isn't an issue. I remove whatever is in the way or go around it depending on my caster and secure the kill, failing this make sure his counter turn will not hurt by removing as much vital pieces as I need to and facilitating my armies ability to deliver whats needed where its needed. BUT my dice rolls fail, and / or I forget a key in game effect resulting in me loosing.

Basically I was up 3 wins but on 0 control points. In a fit of panic over the low CP's I tried to take some on the following game. What I learnt was I should have just assassinated when I saw the opportunity. I waited a turn and missed my chance. I was playing against Menoth and I popped Ossyans feat a turn late, I hit Fiora with a Chronophage and 2 arcantrick bolts and followed up with 3 stormfall archers. I left her on one box. Forgetting that she was under the effect of Chronophage she ran behind a wall blocking my armies line of sight to her. herpderp

The other game was against 3lich. We were grinding each other out to similar effect. I feated first, he countered by moving up and feating. With a bit of scalpel shooting and Phantom Hunter I lined up an assassination on Gaspy. I had him on fire, corroded and with 6 boxes after Kaelyssa spanked him with an Arcane Secreted Arcantrick Bolt. However I now derped, with 3 focus left I figured the better option was to step in, start stripping focus and boosting damage rolls, which it would have. If he didnt have his feat up. I would have been much safer firing one more Arcantrick Bolt at him and sitting well well out of range. As it was I didn't put any damage on him and he healed 4 more points, making the effects of the fire and corrosion negligible. He almost screwd up his own counter assassination run but managed to do at least one activation right (his last one) and killed Kae to the box. It was looking reasonably a safe win for me until I walked too close and gave it away, I'll chalk it up to a lack of concentration.

So I came out 5 wins 2 losses. I dont need to recount the wins, it was in most cases MHSF with Phantom Huntered Arcantrick bolts, or Hyperion to face. I did collect one CP but it was after the last game on the first day and we both forgot to record it, so it didnt go down on my record. No big deal my overal placing of 9th out of 36/38 would have been the same anyway, incidentally I was the highest ranked Ret player and I have a suspicion I might have been close to fastest assassination, but neither of these factors were rewarded. Noted I did "smash" Josh and he was above me on the table at the end.

Lessons? Just kill the motherfuckers, screw the scenario points only take them if its going to win you the game. Your better off 7/0 than 6/1 with 50cp's. But I suppose much of this depends on how the strength of schedule is worked out.

I was geared up for Equinox but it was canceled, and now I am going to Lukes thing in my own house. Not so sweet but... well its something still.

I think I did as well as I expected, I knew the top of the field was going to be a rough group, and actually I didnt get to play against any of them in the tournament, although most of my lists were designed around them in mind. The points worked out something like 5th place was drawn with 3 guys, just barely.

The most important thing about this tournament was that I got my regular Gators opponent to admit that despite his brazen hatred for my Faction Retribution of Scyrah is "ok" Having recieved the OK I now feel justified in my selection of them and that I no longer need to champion them as a faction, and as a result have considered taking on Skorne.

Considering his tournament was pretty bad and he got out played and out listed in a few games he was all but ready to delete his blog and melt down his minis, but the gift of the Mug of Mediocrity "he won a cup for bitching at the TO and having a funny blog) deterred him and now he is just wistfully dreaming of playing a faction that is not sub to "ok"

We players of underpowered factions are hanging on to the new books releases to justify our actions in choosing armies that reside below the Brimblecomb Line of Approval. Its a nasty cycle but its a fact that human beings are such stubborn creatures that we tend to justify bad decisions of our own rather than admit that we made a mistake. Thankfully my faction now has the "OK" and I don't have to admit to such folly.

What the future holds? Nicon perhaps, now that the Big Ides is over there is a bit of a void to fill. Maybe I'll go find a new job or something. Or start that Skorne army.
